Presence is being fully “here” (at any given place and time) and experiencing that “here” with compassionate curiosity, clear awareness, and courage.
-
Presence offers us the ability to see solutions creatively, more quickly. It strengthens our imagination for what is possible by allowing us to connect to an internal stillness.
Presence offers us the courage to show up to the most difficult moments of our lives with compassion and clarity. The courage to accept that there will be unknowns and the courage to flow with it, not against it.
Presence offers us the ability to connect with self-compassion (deeply warm feelings for ourselves) that allow us to stop ruminating and stirring the pot of anxiety that is keeping us disregulated. Practicing the self-compassion that comes from regular meditation allows us to live more fully, to share our gifts with community, and to even recognize what those gifts are! That compassion spreads and can then be applied to those closest to us, those we don’t know, and those we disagree with. This is an ancient practice. It ain’t new.

Conscious rest is an intentional deep state of pause outside of sleep that can be cultivated through the use of sound (and in other ways!). It is a space for healing, drawing our attention back in, physical and mental recovery, and connection. Though we all need rest in a world that moves more quickly than it needs to, conscious rest (as applied to Present Memory) is not solely about relaxation, though relaxation can come from the practice. Conscious rest is slowing down and tapping into our inner wisdom and our interconnectedness with the earth and all beings. Conscious rest can support our nervous system. With regulated nervous systems (that don’t move quickly and unnecessarily into fight or flight), we can think more expansively and build new habits. We can create new neural pathways and slow down old, unsupportive ways of thinking and moving through the world. A conscious rest practice can also build resilience as it relates to our ability to stay centered during difficult moments in our lives.
What is this?
-
You are a parent, a domestic worker, or a caretaker. You tend to our community, everyday, reliably. Going to a mountain to meditate would be great on occasion, but you’d like to integrate ritual and devotion into your daily life, which includes children, aging parents, and multiple jobs.
-
-You are having trouble sleeping, trouble dreaming, and trouble coming into rest.
-You are distracted and unsure of how to bring your attention back to the moments you are missing in life. You’ve journaled before and recognize the importance of carving out space for reflection, but are having a hard time connecting to gratitude and beauty.
-You are burnt out and overextended. You want to tap into a well of energy inside of you that is not about extraction or productivity. You want to regain your sense of intuition to navigate which way to go amongst all of the distractions.
-
-You are a political organizer, advocate or activist and need nervous system regulation, deeper breathing, and better sleep so that you might continue to imagine new worlds and new social systems. You want to continue to work together with others who want the same without losing steam and forfeiting good health.
-You are a healer and need a regular energetic cleanse so that you might healthily keep going with the work we were put here to do.
-
You want to be in deeper communtiy with your friends, partners, and comrades in the struggle, but are having trouble meeting conflict with courage and grace.
-
You experience negative self-talk during the luteal phase of your cycle and need complementary support to quiet those thoughts and move towards enjoying each phase of your cycle.
Who is this for?
“Imagination is not a function of the thinking mind, it is a function of a deeper, interior intuitive way of knowing. To create we must open to grace and surrender to the realm of the unseen, the unknown, and allow it to reveal itself to us. This is where imagination resides.”
Dr. Gail Parker, Restorative Yoga for Ethnic and Race-based Stress and Trauma
